Easter celebrations take place all over Crete

Easter feast is the most important celebration of the year, in Crete island. At least 95 percent of all Greeks claim membership in the Greek Orthodox church. The Greek Orthodox Church does not always celebrate Easter on the same date as the Catholic and Protestant countries.The determination of the date is governed by a computation based on the vernal equinox. The first meal of the day is eaten after the midnight church service of the Resurrection, to break the 40-day fast that has led up to this most joyous of celebrations.
